Gregory Michael Kelly TSGT Ret., USAF, 61, passed away Thursday, January 19, 2012 He was born in Savannah, son of Arthur Delmas Kelly and Hilda McRae Kelly. Mr. Kelly lived in Savannah until moving to Salinas, California where he graduated from Alisal High School. After high school, he joined the United States Navy and served as an Electronics Technician during the Vietnam War. After Vietnam, he joined the 165th Georgia Army National Guard serving in the armory and later the Georgia Air National Guard at Travis Field where he retired after 23 ½ years of service. During his time in the Guard, he served as a law enforcement officer with the Tybee Island Police Department formerly Savannah Beach Police Department; City of Savannah Police Department, Deputy Sheriff with the Liberty County Sheriff's Department and also had training as a fire fighter serving with the Ft. Stewart Fire Department and as an EMT with Liberty County EMS. He also volunteered with the Lake George Volunteer Fire Department where he served as chief for 11 years. After retiring from law enforcement, Mr. Kelly was a truck driver with Georgia Pacific. He was a graduate of St. Leo's University where he received an Associate's Degree in criminal justice.
He was a member of Victory Baptist Church, Thunderbolt Lodge No. 693, served as a Scout Master and an avid Ham Radio Operator.
Surviving are his wife Elaine Allen Kelly of Savannah; sons, Michael Ard-Kelly and his wife, Sonya of Savannah; Jeffery B. Kelly and his wife, Seresa of Charleston; grandchildren, Alex and Fiona Ard-Kelly both of Savannah.
Visitation: 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., Friday, January 20, 2012 at Fox & Weeks Funeral Directors, Islands Chapel.
Funeral: 11:00 a.m., Saturday, January 21, 2012 in the Chapel of Fox & Weeks Funeral Directors, Islands Chapel, conducted by Reverend Joe Conner.
Burial: Hillcrest Abbey Memorial Park.
Remembrances: Victory Baptist Church, 1815 Montgomery Crossroads, Savannah, GA 31406.
